Nestled in a quaint village landscape of the Douro Valley, Refugio D'Anita Douro Valley House was a good escape for my family and me over the Christmas break. The apartment's charming refurbishment provided a cozy environment with air conditioning and a fully equipped kitchen that made evenings spent cooking together enjoyable. We adored the thoughtful touches by our host-like a gorgeous bottle of homemade port wine that set the perfect festive mood. Though we encountered a few cleanliness hiccups, such as stray hairs on linens and an oven surprise left by previous guests, the beautiful surroundings and proximity to local markets easily made up for it. We took advantage of nearby hiking trails, which, combined with the stunning views of the Douro River, were perfect for recharging after our daily explorations. A short drive also led us to Tabuaço, where we enjoyed some local dining and even a swim-ideal for both relaxation and family bonding.
